Automation of pharmaceutical filling plant

CHALLENGE

Holopack Verpackungstechnik specializes in the contract filling of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. Efficient filling technology plays a very significant economic role. Holopack wanted a solution that would increase production capacities when manufacturing sterile and nonsterile, low- to high-viscosity medications.
Controlling the plant – including a powerful homogenizer – required an intelligent automation solution with a batch management system.

IMPLEMENTATION

Together with Copa-Data, HEITEC developed a batch management system for batch processing based on the newly introduced zenon HMI/SCADA software. The system is web-based, enabling the plant to be controlled via the internal corporate network. 
All processes – including CIP (Cleaning in Place), SIP (Sterilization in Place), and DIP (Drying in Place) – is recipe-controlled with detailed operator prompting. 
All recipes can be modified and parametrized down to the individual step level.
Thanks to its open approach, this scalable system developed by HEITEC is suitable for many production plants that are controlled by recipes constructed of basic functions.
